Chaos Ransomware comes to Optima Tax Reduction, 69 GB of Data are filtered

Cyberators of financial service providers are no longer isolated events. In recent years, tax preparation companies, accounting software vendors and data runners have been found in the cross bands of Ransomware bands that are increasingly aggressive. Customer Case Files and Personal Information Exposed

The stolen data in the attack includes what seems to be corporate documents and customer -sensitive cases files. Tax documents are especially valuable for cybercrime. They often contain social security numbers, domestic addresses, telephone numbers and other identifiers that can be used to commit financial frauds or impersonation.

Sources known to the incident said LeepingComputer This was a double extortion attack. This means that chaos not only stole the data, but also encrypted Optima systems, allegedly demanding a rescue in exchange for access and non -dissemination. The firm has not yet publicly mentioned if it plans to pay the rescue or notify the affected people.

The attackers listed Optima on their place of leaks earlier this week. Although the complete data set has not been published, the leak already raises concerns about the regulatory compliance and the protection of consumers, especially taking into account the sensitive nature of the company’s work.

A new group of ransomware with high value goals

Chaos Ransomware first emerged in March 2025, when he claimed responsibility for five separate breaches. The group is not connected to the “Builder Ransomware of the Chaos”, a set of DIY tools that has been in circulation since 2021. Instead, it is believed that this version of the chaos is led by a coordinated team that strategically directs organizations with access to large quantities of identifiable personal information.
